Irkutsk (in the latitude 57 degree 17 minutes North, in the longtitude 104 degree 16 minutes East ) is situated in the latitude of such cities as Orenburg, Saratov, Voronezh, Warsaw, Berlin.

Nowadays Irkutsk is one of the biggest cities of the Russian Federation and has the status one of the seven cities that have the unique historical and cultural heritage. The population is more than 600 thousands of people. It is the administrative, business, industrial, scientific and educational center, where more than 10 thousands enterprises (of different magnitudes), Russian Academy of Science Siberian department branch with net of scientific institutes, universities and institutes of higher education (the number of students is about 100 thousands) are concentrated.
Irkutsk is the Siberian city where the old lacy wooden houses adjoin to modern many-storied buildings. Here you can find Drama and Music Theatres, Young People’s Theatre, Philharmonic society with symphonic orchestra, organic music hall. There are rich archeological and ethnographic collections in one of the oldest in Russia Irkutsk Museum of Local Lore. The Irkutsk Art Museum is in operation аbout 120 years, it was founded on the basis of private collection. The Works of such Irkutsk writers as Konstantin Sedykh, Alexander Vampilov, Mark Sergeev, Valentin Rasputin are well known not only in Russia.
