August, 8 at the Irkutsk airport starts reconstruction of artificial surfaces of the runway and taxiway. At the first stage it should be reconstructed 2,100 meters of the runway (full length is 2765), a width of 45 meters, plus 7.5 meters on both sides of the hard shoulder of the asphalt. In total it will be laid 73 tons of asphalt concrete and polymer asphalt concrete. 2765 meters of drainage facilities with a device of two reservoirs and treatment facilities should be reconstructed and new airport lighting should be put. The deadline is 104 days. Start of works is August 8, 2011. The cost of the first phase of the project amounts to 572 million rubles. It is to be recalled that the last major section of the runway was reconstructed in 1989. For the first time polymer asphalt concrete will be applied in the reconstruction of the runway in Irkutsk. For this purpose it was brought a special facility from Moscow, which will be installed in mid-August. Using new technology gives an advantage: firstly, the structure of bitumen changes, it becomes more elastic, and secondly, it is unexposed to significant temperature difference, which is important for Siberian conditions from "+" to "-". Additionally, for the strength of the coating, will be laid the geogrid. The runway should be paved by October 20, 2011.

About 100 people of Irkutsk branch of CJSC "Trud” (“Work”), two pavers, seven rollers, support equipment, floor saws etc. will be operated onsite. Repairing works will be conducted from Monday to Saturday from 11.00 am to 23.00 pm and on Sunday from 7.30 am to 4.00 am of Monday. At this time, large aircrafts will not be accepted at the airport. As for the local airlines like AN-24 ,An-26 - they will fly as scheduled. During the repairing period they can use the area of shorter runway. The only exception will be for the week Baikal Economic Forum – for this time the reconstruction will be suspended.

In accordance with the contest results of contractor selection that was organized by the federal state unitary enterprise "Civil airports (airdrome) administration", construction work will be performed by CJSC "Trud". Construction work includes runway reconstruction (the main part with the length of 2100 meters), construction of drainage facilities and disposal facility. According to the contract terms this work should be performed during 104 days. The reconstruction begins from August,8. During Baikal Economic Forum VII the work will be suspended because of a great number of flights by which delegates and participants of the forum will arrive to Irkutsk. In 2011 600 million rubles were committed from the federal budget for the runway reconstruction in Irkutsk airport.

As it was previously declared, construction work will be performed from 11:00 to 23:00, therefore the main part of flights will be performed from 23:00 to 11:00.
